Watch: ‘Omni’, a new VR film by Ai Weiwei
Published 21 January, to coincide with a wide-ranging interview on the Guardian (read here), Ai Weiwei’s ‘Omni’ (2019) can be watched in full online now:
Ai’s new project ‘Omni’ (2019), his first virtual reality artwork, brings together two videos – Displaced Working Elephants in Myanmar and Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh – and gives viewers an intimate view of the uprooted, both animals and humans, as they experience various forms of displacement. The 360-degree immersive video places the viewer alongside the former working elephants in Myanmar, and within a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, the world’s largest refugee settlement, in Bangladesh.
To fully experience the work, launch the video in the Youtube app and using a cardboard VR viewer, and click on the headset icon in the bottom right corner of the video to explore the video in 360.
