Daniel Birnbaum to curate ‘Electric’ for Frieze New York

Anish Kapoor, Into Yourself Fall, 2018

Electric, curated by Daniel Birnbaum presents a selection of VR and AR artworks by artists of different generations, including Anish Kapoor and Rachel Rossin, who explore this new medium from radically different angles.

“When a new medium emerges and is employed by artists there appears to be a window of a few years that allows for free experimentalism. For augmented reality and virtual reality that period would seem to be right now. Electric presents a number of artists of different generations who make use of the new technical tools. Some of the works included reference works of art, such as Marcel Duchamp’s The Large Glass that appears to have anticipated dimensions that become visible today. Others explore entirely new immersive possibilities.”

Two programs, Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC), will alternate every hour. Visitors will experience the artworks through headsets available inside the Electric booth and through the Acute Art app.
